Arlene Mae Selin

February 28th, 1933 – March 26th, 2024

Arlene Mae Selin 91, passed away on March 26, 2024. She was born in Eveleth, MN to George and Ailie Kangas Feb 28, 1933. She had six brothers and sisters and grew up during the depression. After Arlene graduated from high school, she lived in Evanston, IL and worked as a telephone operator. When she moved back to Minnesota, she was married to Melvin Selin after his service to the army during the Korean War. They moved to Duluth. They had three children; Karen, Jerry and Janelle.

Together they built 2 homes on Getchell Rd and one on Morris Thomas Rd in Hermantown. Arlene enjoyed playing softball and was very active in bowling. Arlene had several jobs during her working years. She had worked at Target for a few years shortly after the store opened. Then moved on to working for Jeno’s Inc until the company moved to Florida. Then she sewed sweaters for a time. Later she worked part-time for Thomson Berry Farms on the production line.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles, Leroy, and Gordon Kangas; and sister June Flannegan. Her husband Melvin passed away Feb19,1975 and youngest daughter Janelle Selin passed away May 6,2014. Arlene is survived by her brother Dale Kangas of Eveleth, MN, daughter, Karen (Selin) Wallin of Cloquet, MN, son Jerry (Diane) Selin of Esko, MN. Also her grandchildren, Nick (Bobbie Jo) Selin, Jeremy (Casey) Selin, and Matthew (Abbey Berndt) Selin, Dustin (Katlyn Addison) Selin, Terris Selin and Kortnee Fornetti, also twelve great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

We will have a celebration of Life for Arlene this summer.
