Larry Arnold Whitney

January 9, 1946 – April 22, 2024
Larry Arnold Whitney Born 1/09/1946 in Duluth, MN to Edward and Helen (Salmi) Whitney passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN 4/22/2024, he was 78.
Larry spent the majority of his life in Hermantown, MN where he grew up as a little boy and then later returned back to the homestead, where he spent his retirement. He had a lot of enjoyment in the outdoors, when he was able he spent a lot of time fishing and was always trying for the biggest fish, often betting his siblings and nieces and nephews for a dollar. He really also enjoyed watching and caring for the wildlife in his yard. He took many pictures of the deer at "Whitney Place" and always had to call someone to share about the biggest buck he saw for the new season. He made sure to keep them fed during winter, stocking up on alfalfa for the whole winter long. He also LOVED the chipmunks that lived at the house, they made their home under the porch and as the story was told, his mother used to hand feed them and really enjoyed her "chippies" so he wanted to keep them well cared for too. He also made sure there was a never ending supply of birdseed at home for mom's birdfeeders. Gardening and canning his famous pickles was a must up until just a few summers ago. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, Becky (Mattson) and his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tim Stroik as well as his pride and joy, his only 2 grandsons, Anden and Beckett.

Larry was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister, Nina Leslie, sister Donna Johnson, brother, Dale Whitney, and brother, Stanley Whitney. He was the last living, the baby, of the Whitney children.

Larry is also survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Whitney, several nieces and nephews, Diane Johnson Flowers, Carol Johnson, Cheryl Johnson Ottinger, Renee Rader, Steven Leslie, Tammi Millstead, Terry Whitney, Brenda Ducharme, Susan Whitney, Sharon Larman, Craig Whitney and Jay Whitney.
