Mary Jo Ernell

August 29, 1954 – January 7, 2023

Mary Jo Ernell age 68 of Gwinn MI left this world and joined her parents on Saturday January 07, 2023.

Mary was born on August 29, 1954 to William and Ruth “Babe” (Sarri) Ernell. Mary graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1973. 

Upon graduating she worked at the Gossard in Ishpeming MI. After getting married Mary took on one of her greatest roles she became a mom to three loving children. For the next nineteen years she was a stay at home mom. As her children grew up she took on new role that of Nana. She was so very proud of her grandchildren. This spring she was looking forward to seeing her granddaughter Austin graduate from high school. As her life moved on Mary became a CNA at Norlite Nursing Home in Marquette MI. Here she worked for over twenty years. Mary enjoyed caring for the residents and went out of her way to at times to make them feel special. She was proud of the work she did there. Upon her retirement she became a caregiver for her friend Gloria. A role that she held until this past August. 

In her free time Mary enjoyed rooting for the Lions, knitting and above all else shopping. Over the years she took numerous trips with her children. Including one trip with her grandson Lyam to Tennessee. Her most recent trip was a cruise to Hawaii and Mexico. On this trip many memories were made. Mary also enjoyed her monthly visits with her son Brad to Hibbing MN. Throughout her life Mary enjoyed the company of her pets. 

Mary is survived by her three children Darcia (William) Schooler, Bradlee Koski and Nathanial (Courtney Mitchell) Koski. Her grandchildren Austin and Sean Johnson of Tenino WA, Lyam Schooler of Vulcan MI and Presley Koski of El Paso TX. Mary was like a second mother to Marella Johnson of Tenino WA. Mary will also hold a special place in the heart of her second husband Gerry Vallar of Gwinn MI.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents. Numerous aunts and uncles among them her favorite Aunt Hattie. Along with friend Gloria Bosworth. Mary was loved by many and will be deeply missed. 

In accordance with her wishes Mary will be cremated with a memorial service to be held this upcoming summer. Arrangements are being handled by Twin Ports Cremation Services of Proctor MN.
