Margaret Ann (Maggie) Reid, 93, of Duluth, MN, traveled to her heavenly destination on December 30, 2025. Maggie was born in Duluth, MN on April 3, 1932. Her high school dream was to travel the world and while on one of her early travels to San Diego, CA in her 30’s, she fell in love with the ocean and chose to make San Diego her permanent “home away from home”.
Maggie was an independent woman of proud Scottish descent. A true Scot, Maggie had the natural gift of storytelling, a contagious sense of humor and could talk to anyone. Bagpipes, kilts, shortbread, attendance at many San Diego Highland Games and Duluth Scottish Heritage Association events were mainstays. After graduating Denfeld High School in 1950, she began her career that same year at Northern City National Bank in Duluth, continuing her career in the banking industry until retiring in 1997 from Peninsula Bank in San Diego. She was an avid lunchtime walker and a regular at her fitness club where classmates became family. She was very proud of her volunteer job as a “San Diego Airport Ambassador” and event hostess at the Convention Center, always promoting her San Diego home well into retirement!
As a youth, Maggie enjoyed volleyball, singing in the choir in school and at First Presbyterian Church, and making music with her talented siblings, brother Jack (accordion) and sister Katy (keyboard). Maggie also enjoyed bowling and was an avid curler and member of the Duluth Curling Club. She spent countless summers in Moose Lake at the family cabin in Sand Lake where she embraced her young nieces and nephews in swimming, boating, water skiing and entertaining visitors. Many nature hikes, birthday parties & joy rides in her famous convertible were all enjoyed by family.
Maggie’s lifelong travels brought her world-wide, filling many photo albums of each trip and recalling remarkable facts and storytelling. Her beloved Scotland & British Isles, Scandinavia, Alaska, Canada, many other European destinations, cruises to Hawaii, Australia and her personal favorite, Fiji. Her home showcased souvenirs from each adventure, accompanied by a personal story told by Maggie. In 2023, she capped off her lifelong travels with one more cross-country flight in returning home to Duluth, MN, where she continued sharing stories and making memories closer to family.
Remembering & celebrating her life are nieces: Debra Giddings (Kenny Halvorsen) & family, Cheryl Puleston (Chuck) & family, Mary Martinson (Robert) & family, Carol Prachar (Dave) & family; nephews Brian Giddings (Alexa) & family, Gregg Giddings, John Reid (Annette) & family.
She is preceded in death by parents, John (Jack) & Charlotte (Lottie) Reid, brother & sister-in-law John M (Jackie) & Mildred Reid, sister & brother-in-law Kathryn & Rodney Giddings.
A family gathering will take place in the Spring.
